Page 34 — Rise from the Ashes Launch Celebration!

Notes: In this episode, they go full meta and are talking about the re-release of Gyakuten Saiban 1, which was originally a GBA game. It was re-named Gyakuten Saiban - Yomigaeru Gyakuten (Turnabout Trials - The Resurrected Turnabout) for the DS release (The Resurrected Turnabout is also the Japanese name of the new bonus case, Rise From the Ashes). When they're talking about RftA, they're talking about the whole re-release of GS1. The Japanese release has the ability to play in both English and Japanese, hence why Maya is practising English. I've transcribed the English as it's written in kana, and I kept Phoenix's name as Naruhodou for those parts, and nothing makes sense anymore.

• The contents of the limited edition are great! I ran to my local game shop. I'm really excited about the contents! (Kiriseishou, Shizuoka Prefecture)

• I always go out to buy Dorimaga as soon as it's out, because of the Ace Attorney articles. Takumi-san's articles and Suekane-san's illustrations are fun, too! A phone card for all applicants is the best plan, pal! (Bubukori♥, Tokyo Metropolis)

• Seeing more and more info about Rise From the Ashes is making my heart thump! Tomoe-san [Lana Skye] is pretty, huh? Takumi-san, Suekane-san, Capcom and all the editorial team, we're rooting for you, so do your best! The DVD was the best, too! I want a poster next! (Asunaro, unknown prefecture)

Rise From the Ashes Launch Celebration! — At the Wright & Co. Law Offices

With the launch of Rise From the Ashes, Phoenix and the gang immediately go out to get the software! With the English version also included, everyone is going to try to test out their English proficiency?!

maya Gummounin, Mistaa Naahodou! Hau du ya du!

phoenix W-What was that, Maya?

Maya: Get a clue, Nick! It's right here! When someone says, "Hau du ya du?", it's customary to reply with, "Aimu fain, senkyuu. Enjuu?" Don't you think?

Phoenix: But I've never actually seen foreigners exchanging greetings like that in real life.

Maya: What! Well. They taught us that at school.

Phoenix: Maya, you went to school..?

Maya: How rude. I'm memorising my entire English textbook by heart! Hey, Pearly!

Pearl: Yes! I'm learning conversational English from Mystic Maya!

Phoenix: Oh, that's great! Can you say something to me?

Pearl: Yes, of course! Let's see. "Mistaa Naahodou. Aa yuu a booi oa a gaaru?"

Phoenix: Oh wow, that's great! ...Although the question itself is nonsense.

Pearl: *sniff*

Maya: Hey! Answer properly!

Phoenix: O-O-Okay. Let's see. "Ai amu a booi."

Maya: Yes! Now you, Pearly!

pearl Hmmm. "Ou! Yuu aa notto a booi enimou."

phoenix Huh? What did you say?

maya She said, "What are you on about? How can you be a boy when you're so old?"

Phoenix: What the heck are you teaching her?!

Pearl: Um, um. That's just how it's written in the textbook...

Phoenix: Well, it's an awful textbook. But why are you learning English, anyway?

Maya: Oh my gosh, Nick! Rise from the Ashes has finally been released today!

Phoenix: Well, yes, of course.

Maya: And Rise from the Ashes also comes with the English version of the game, that's why!

Phoenix: Ohhhh, is that right..?

Pearl: Oh, I am so excited to see how they translate "ladders" and "step-ladders"!

Phoenix: Extraordinary... You're really super into this, aren't you?

Maya: Look, look! I bought it! The packaging is different every time though, huh?

Phoenix: Oh. You actually had enough money? Normally you're always cribbing it from me.

Maya: Well, I borrowed 3,000 yen from Pearly.

Pearl: There was already a feeling of Ace Attorney fever in town!

Phoenix: Huh? Really?

Maya: Yeah! When we went to town, everyone kept looking at us!

Phoenix: Didn't that bother you?

Maya: Well, anyway. Let's give it a go straight away, Pearly!

Pearl: Yes! That... oh!

Maya: Huh? What is it?

pearl Well, it's smaller than usual, the cartridge.

mayaMan, for such a high price... why did they make it so small?

Pearl: M-Mystic Maya! It won't go in the game console!

Maya: Huh?! It's true. It won't go in! I can't believe it! They palmed off the heroine with faulty goods!

phoenix No, no, no, just wait a second. Isn't that a Gameboy Advance?

Maya: Yeah, so?

Phoenix: Then. Rise from the Ashes is a Nintendo DS game.

Maya: Whaaaaaaa?! I don't have one of those!

Pearl: So we can't play it? I was so excited, too...

Maya: What's that? On the television advert, they said, "Wright has been murdered! What will be the truth discovered by beautiful detective Maya? Rise from the Ashes on satellite TV, tomorrow at 8pm!" ... We can't get satellite TV at home! ... What's the deal?

Phoenix: What's that about? ... Excuse me a moment. Here, let me play.

maya What?! Your game is in a big, stylish, black box?! Mine is completely different!

phoenix Ahh. You see, mine is a limited edition.

Pearl: So in this huge box, all they put in is this teeny cartridge?

Phoenix: You shouldn't say things like that. The people at Capcom will get angry if they hear you. We get various bonuses, like manga and CDs.

Maya: Ooh! I want one, too! Come! Let's go back and exchange it for one of those!

Phoenix: Umm... It seems there are none left. They sold out in a heartbeat.

Maya: Whaaa? What's with that? On the announcement on TV, they said, "An ominous, shadowy figure approaches the beautiful, young Maya. What's the truth behind the mysterious person seeking a 500,000,000 yen legacy? Rise from the Ashes, yesterday, 8pm." Oh, man. I missed it! What's the deal?

Phoenix: Just now, what did you say? About this dodgy TV series?

Pearl: Anyway, Mystic Maya. How about we go and buy that Nintendo DS now?

Maya: Yeah! Pearly, how much money do you have?

pearl 600 yen!

maya I have 50 yen. So how much is it again? "DS", right?

phoenix Okay, fine. Take my wallet.

Pearl: Come on then! Let's go!

Maya: Yeah! Anyone can play it, no matter who they are! Rise from the Ashes!

Phoenix: Hey, the shops around here are closed for the day [or all sold out?]. See you again next month.
