What is This Book? (Re)Create This Book Pt 1

I'm a big fan of Moriah Elizabeth's channel, and I really admire how creative she is. Like, how the heck does she come up with all those ideas? I have a lot of imagination, but very little creativity. I just find it such a struggle to come up with anything original and interesting. Anyway, watching her Create This Book series, I was tempted to buy a copy of one of them, but now that I've lost my job (thanks, Mophead McLiarface), I can't really justify spending £12 on something that I lack the creativity to even do a good job with. So, I went kinda cheeky and copied out some of the prompts I liked in an old notebook I bought years ago and never knew what to do with. I'm planning on using some free prompts from the interwebz as well.

Anyway, I'm actually surprised that I managed to fill out three prompts already! The first one I tried was "Create softness". I thought of quilts and soft fluffy mice, so here is what I drew.

It's far from perfect, but for me, I think I did a pretty good job. Drawing doesn't come easily to me. In fact, I pretty much gave it up, because I just lacked the ideas and skills to come up with anything remarkable.

Colouring in didn't really improve it, as I still super-suck at colouring.

Yes, there is an addition of a strawberry, and I'll explain why later.

The next one was "Create a pocket". I thought and thought, and at first, I was going to do a pencil case, and fill it with drawings of pencils, but then I had the bright idea of SWEET JAR SHAKIE! I've wanted to make a shakie for literally years. I've even been hoarding acetate for this reason, but somehow just never did it. Also during this process, I learnt the correct way to do it (after a failed attempt) and I shall show you here, just in case your brain is like mine.

So first, choose what you want in your shakie. I drew and cut out pictures of sweets, and I also added some confetti and glitter. I probably should have added more glitter, but hey. Create a background if you like. Now place your shakies where your pocket will be. Don't pile them as high up as I did, or they'll just get stuck and not shake.

On a separate piece of card, cut out the shape of your transparent area. Then cut out some acetate or clear film that is larger than the cut out. Glue the acetate onto the back of the card, then use some foam tape on top of the back of the acetate to go all the way around the cutout, making sure you don't leave any gaps.

Now place the edge of the card into the spine to align it, check all your little shakies are in the right place, then carefully remove the backing tape from your foam strips, and press down to secure it. Now you have a shakie-shakie!

The last one was one that I should have done first, except I couldn't think of anything for ages. It's "Create a rule". You have to choose something that you do on, or add to, every page. It was only after I made the shakie page that I thought of that orange sweet I put in there, and thought, "Okay, I can add a fruit to every page". I really do like this idea! So that's why Soft Mousey had to have a strawberry added (I coloured that page after I made the shakie page).

create a rule

The left side looks pretty crap, because I really do suck at colouring. But my drawing skill does go up when I actually bother to use a freakin' reference! I originally planned on drawing a fruit bowl on the left, then I thought, nah, that's boring and too hard for me, so I started to colour a flowing rainbow on the left, then I thought, no, why don't I do fruit balloons! The dark green leaves on the strawberry do look awful, but I was using crayola pencils, which, unlike my WHSmith ones, don't erase, so that red start of the flowing rainbow had to be disguised with the dark green. I think it would have looked nicer if I'd chosen brighter colours.

That's all for now. I think next, I might do the "Create a fan page" prompt, but I'm not sure if I want to do Darth Jar Jar, or California Dreams.

I am easily amused (the video ID in case you didn't get it).
