New DIY Mini Dollshouse Project

Ohhh, you remember my paper maché monstrosity, don't you? Well, this is not a repeat of that. I'm sticking with the smaller scale. I started by mocking this up in The Sims 2. Fun fact: the in-game screenshot function no longer works, so I now have to use printscreen and tab out. Oh, EA, how I love you! I went for a tiny-home. In real life, I'm really starting to feel inclined towards living in a tiny home. Not that it will ever happen, because prisoner, gilded cage, etc. But I have to dream to keep myself sane.

Here is my mock-up:

Translating this to a physical model, I translated 1 in-game square to 2 cm.

To make this, I used greyboard, which I thnk is the same thing as mountboard. I got a ton of this free at work, as they used it to protect the writing paper and so on in deliveries. You can buy this, or alternatively use the back of refill pads, but check the thickness. 1mm is ideal.

For the fabric, I used the dyeing technique I found out during my last customisation of a kit. I mixed up a tiny bit of caerulean blue, some lemon yellow and white, then diluted it with water. It wasn't bright enough, so I added in some yellow LIT powder, as it's the only neon paint I have (I wasn't sure if Tulip paint is compatible with acrylic). This is the colour I got. It's still a bit on the blue side, and I didn't want to use any more LIT (that stuff is expensive).

So I dunked in some yellow fabric, rather than white.

And got the exact shade that I wanted!

The yellow pillow there is the original colour of the green-dyed fabric.

Here's how I made the sofa base.

I was going for that same shade for the green accents on the furniture, but it ended up way too bright.

I'm genuinely impressed by how much the image quality goes up when switching to photo paper. I mean, the details are incredible.

The book is smaller than my little finger nail. And yes, that is a Dvorak keyboard and Linux mint.

I still have the bathroom to work on. I'm thinking of using Fimo for the toilet. To keep with the tiny theme, I'm going to see if I can make the first floor loft-style, ie slanted roof. The hard parts are coming up now. I do want some lighting too, but as I plan on giving this the full 4 walls + ceiling, with at least 1 wall being removable, I don't know yet how I'll do it.
