It's time to take another trip down Memory Lane, as I look back at my old artwork. Some of these pictures date back to 2008. So well done me, it's been 12 years since I started Dreamsong, and I'm still not done.
Here is an old sketch of Apollo. This was meant to be the scene in chapter 4 when Palutena asks if he knows what's going on. I didn't use this, because he just doesn't exude enough sliminess. He's supposed to be way more repulsive!
I meant to illustrate this scene from chapter 2. I think I have a coloured version (actually, yes I do), but it never made it in as it just didn't convey his despair.
I tried to make a new version. It's better, but I'm still not completely happy with it. It seems I did start inking it on SAI, though.
Callimachus and Asteria, in a scene from chapter 2. I even did a full colour version of this, but it was from the early days of SAI, before I got the hang of the vector tool. So I outlined it in raster, and ended up ruining it. So it didn't make it in either.
This is Charis. She was mentioned in chapter 1, and turns up in chapter 6. I remember when I first got the hang of drawing profile views. Happy times!
Here is a really old draft of the scene from chapter 3. It's soooooooo bad! The final version is not perfect, but much, much better!
Callimachus giving Kiki a piggyback. Kiki's pose needs fixing.
I was practising the kanji for tegami... so I drew a picture of Kiki writing a baffling letter to her dad.
This was the scene in chapter 3 when Kiki was asking Cal about Skyworld. I have several attempts in my notebook of illustrating this scene. In the end, it looks like I got desperate.
This was a scene from chapter 4.
Chibi Kiki and Jayce:
From chapter 4, when Pit breaks the bad news to Kiki:
I'm tempted to start working on finishing off some of these illustrations, but there's the small matter of chapter 6 needing to be written. It's been 15 years!
I said this would be a two-parter, but there will be a bonus edition coming up next.
