Blast From the Past: I Found the Original Chibi Sky Stickers, Plus More 80s and 90s Nostalgia

I found the stickers! They were in my old diary. They’re cute, huh? These were the pictures I tried to replicate, and then I made one of my own design in that style.

Read on to find out what I wrote in my diary at age 7…

Names have been censored to protect my sisters’ privacy. I mean, would you want to be related to someone who writes diary entries like these?

“After we played so”… I couldn’t even be bothered to finish the sentence!

I didn’t just write about exactly what time I woke up to go down and watch TV.

For the record, I wrote her name ALL IN CAPITALS on both these pages. I wonder at 7 year old me. I vaguely remember what I think was this day. I think our cousins were over that day, and I can’t remember what my sister did, but I was fuming and vented in this diary. I wish I knew what I wrote on that bit I tore off. I must have felt bad about it, or been worried someone might have seen it. Because on the next page, I’d calmed down a bit.

I was a weird kid. Here’s what the diary’s cover looked like. I was also a very girly kid. This was from one of those bargain basement shops that I don’t see anymore. I can’t even remember where this one was. I think my sisters made fun of me for this, saying it meant I wanted to get married. Jokes on them — they’re the ones who are married now.

Did anyone else collect these spring pencil toppers? They were from this shop we used to visit on Saturdays.

I have loads of keyrings from my childhood. Maybe one day I’ll show the collection, but here are a few for now:

I’ve always loved fluorescent colours.

Here’s a purse that I think I inherited from my older sister. I’m getting more 70s vibes from this than 80s:

This was from one of those basement shops, too. I love this. Every time I see this box it takes me right back! I have another one of these in blue with the same graphics. They had a plastic padlock, but the catches on both are long broken.

What did I keep inside?

chessington

Interesting! An old Chessington ticket. I went Chessington a couple of times. This must be from the second time, it must have been a school trip? I’m a midget, and whenever you got to the front of a queue, they had the minimum height guard, and even when I was 15, I worried that I wouldn’t be allowed on.

The first time I was quite young, primary school age anyway. I hated rollercoasters. I faked feeling ill so I wouldn’t have to go on The 5th Dimension, because while we were queueing, one of my cousins said it was a really fast rollercoaster. So my mum had to take me out and we went on the old car thing, where you can pretend you’re driving. Afterwards, when my sisters were talking about it, I found out it wasn’t a rollercoaster at all. We went on The Vampire Ride first thing and I don’t remember being traumatised… but why am I trying to make sense of my 8 year old thought processes? What else is in the box?

Oh no! How’s this for synchronicity!

What a coincidence! Those things were always being given out in the 90s. Pretty much everywhere would have these as souvenirs or promo gifts. I don’t know if this company exists anymore.

That’s it for this episode of Blast From the Past. Okay, bye!
