I Customised a Jewellery Box

I had an old jewellery box I haven't had any use for for years. I was never a fan of the design, the colours never did anything for me. I decided to gift it to Tines. I was going to paint some doughnuts on it, but she insisted on a sunset scene, like the one I painted on my Moriah-inspired underwater scene.

So I looked up some design ideas, because I have no creativity of my own. I found this tutorial and pathetically tried to copy it.

First step: sand and gesso.

This mirror was such a pain. It had this problem of always falling out, but when I wanted to pull it out so I could start prepping the inside, guess what? It remained firmly stuck, and I had to do a lot of prying, which damaged the edge of the mirror. And yes, after I finished working on it and re-attached the mirror, it fell out again.

I got my reference image in front of me and started painting. It started okay...

But I just couldn't get the clouds right. In the end, I decided to leave them out and painted over them.

I painted the inside gold and re-attached the mirror, which later fell off. I used some UHU Power to stick it back on and it seems to behaving so far.

Here's how it ended up. Tiny insisted she wanted the dolphin and the island. It's not the best, but hey, I tried. I coated it in a few layers of satin sealant to protect it and give it a soft sheen.

finished!

Okay, bye!
