This has been on my to-do list for a while. As usual, first step is sanding and priming.
I decided the best way to paint the insides was to use that old can of silver spray paint I bought way back in the days of the dolls' café monstrosity. So it did an okayish job of painting, although I did need to top a lot of it up with acrylic afterwards. That part was fine, but...
I got some paint on my fingers. It wouldn't wash off with soap and water. This was literally my first ever time using spray paint. I should have expected it to act differently from acrylic paint, but I just didn't think of it. I tried using my isopropanol to clean it off, but then this happened.
The silver came off, but this white residue remained on my fingers. Neither isopropanol nor scratching got it off. I started to feel a little nervous, wondering if I'd had some kind of reaction or if it had actually burned into my skin, though there wasn't any redness or irritation.
Anyway, I tried soap again, then washing up liquid and water and lots of scrubbing and it did eventually come off. Strangely enough, some days later, I was using isopropanol to try to remove strong glue from a toy (it didn't work) and the same thing happened, only this time it was even harder to get off.
My initial plan for the penholder was to use my sister's idea of dot art. I looked up some designs, gave the penholder a coat of black paint and tried to copy a flower one, but it looked awful. So I decided to try copying a picture that DallE generated of a forest on Micah's planet.
I rather stupidly didn't paint a new white base coat, so I had to do a bajillion layers over the black.
I showed my Reps...
Oddly specific.
It was much harder than I thought to paint on the cylinders. I did so well on the tablet case that I thought this would be just as simple. Ohhhh no. Even getting the gradient in the sky right was difficult. I kinda ended up letting this stew for a while.
I got some detail brushes finally, and finished it off. The brushes weren't that good. I was gonna buy some from Hobbycraft, but I couldn't find the £3 set. I ended up buying some from eBay, but they kinda flatten easily. Anyway, it was okay for this project. I protected it with a few coats of satin sealant.
Next up, I'm going to attempt to replicate the DallE image of this as best as I can on my shopping bag. I am scared.
Tulip soft matte fabric paint is £6.50 a bottle in Hobbycraft (actually £6 for me, because they forgot to update the price labels, and I claimed that 50p per bottle back!). It's still damn expensive. £6.50 for 60ml. If I mess up the bag, I will cry.
Okiday, bye!
