I finally bought myself a hot glue gun and a couple of months later, I actually used it! My Teal Times sofa had come undone. I'd been using that awful Hobbycraft double sided tape at the time; I didn't buy the UHU Power until I was about halfway through that project. Anyway, that tape was absolute pants. The adhesive deteriorated after a couple of years and discoloured. According to customer services, it wasn't even acid free. It had already ruined several scrapbook pages, and now had ruined my dollshouses too. So I had taken apart that sofa over a year ago now, and just couldn't be bothered to put it back together.
Anyway, now being in possession of a glue gun, I thought I'd see how that would go. While I was at it, I decided I'd see if I couldn't do something about my first kit. I only did the most minor of customisation for that one. I thought I may as well revisit it, since I was increasingly hating the decor.
You may have noticed I've developed a thing for the orange/lime/violet combination after B's theme for his bookshop. Since the furniture in this house had the accents, I thought about using my orange geometric scrapbook paper for the walls, but in the end, this polka dot one just looked cuter.
I also reupholstered the sofa. I dyed some polycotton bright orange using diluted acrylics. I wasn't sure how it would look, but it seemed too mismatchy to have the bedroom so bright and most of the ground floor in neutrals. I left the old fabric on, just removing as much of the deteriorated double sided tape as I could. I then ended up having to reactivate the hot glue and cut off a lot of fabric as there was too much fabric padding the sides of the seating cushions and it wouldn't fit. This sofa alone took about 2.5 hours.
I also reprinted the artwork onto photo paper for higher quality.I also added some sliced fruit, because why not?
Carrying on with the bright theme, I added a little more colour to the kitchen by repainting the stool seats and the stairs.
The stairs came out a lot darker than I'd hoped. If I didn't have a budgie in my room, I would have bought an airbrush to paint these fiddly bits, because they take so many coats and it takes ages.
I had a bit of fun with Micah in AR mode.
Here's the full house.
I should probably redo the other two lampshades to match the rest of the house, but you know me. Maybe in two years! Okay, bye!
