Making Another Paper Maché Shelf

I made a corner shelf out of paper maché ages ago, back when I made the Commander Keen stage. It was actually a part of that video, but it turns out you can't upload more than 15 minutes without giving g00gle your phone number, so it got cut. The big problem with it was that things kept falling off it. So I decided to make another one, but with a lip on the edge.

I had the same issue with the paper bubbling after applying gesso, and I'm wondering if that's because the PVA might have been overdiluted? Maybe the glue needs to be stronger. I had the exact same issue with my first shelf.

I was in two minds about how to decorate it. I wanted to do paint pouring again, but I wondered if there was any point, given that there'd be stuff on it and you wouldn't see it anyway. In the end, the desire to be matchy-matchy won. Since I have a big up bottle of magenta paint (actually Magenta II, which is darker than the Magenta I advertised in the listing), I went for a safe theme of magenta, white and gold.

The paint was to thick at first. It's been a long time since I last did an acrylic pour!

I managed to not knock the fan onto it like I did with the last one. Here's a close-up.

Here it is on the wall. Don't judge me by the chintz. That wasn't my choice. If it was up to me, I'd paint that whole wall.

I had a lot of paint leftover, so I made a couple more pieces.

And another with silver instead of gold.
