This is getting out of hand. Every time I go shopping, I discover more and more junk foods that are vegan-friendly.
So last week I went to Morrison’s to compare their doughnuts to the Asda ones.
They contain palm oil, but Morrison’s say they only use sustainable sources, so I’m okay with it.
The Asda doughnuts cost £1.05 for 5. The Morrison’s ones cost 69p for 5. They’re also bigger, and have more jam. The jam isn’t as nice though, but they’re still yum. I would definitely recommend them over the Asda ones, just because they are better value, but the dough is also better: super soft and more-ish.
I decided to go Morrison’s again yesterday, because I discovered the last time that their potato waffles are 21p cheaper than Tesco’s, and also Tesco’s are really greasy, unlike Morrison’s ones, which are not greasy at all. Although when you look at the fat content, it’s higher. Strange. Anyway, I popped into Sainsbury’s on the way to Morrison’s, since Morrison’s didn’t have custard doughnuts last time. So I picked up a pack of their custard ones…
…then had a look around for some vegan chocolate spread. I couldn’t find any, but I did find this for 30p per bar.
I can’t comment on it at the moment, because I’m still working my way through a Lidl one, which has gone up to, I think, 49p per bar. I’m sure it used to be 37p:
The Sainsbury’s one has less cocoa solids, and no vanilla flavour, though. I have a feeling it won’t be as nice, but I buy these, ostensibly, for baking anyway.
I also found this blast from the past!
I suffered terribly from car sickness as a kid. My mum would give me those anti-emetic tablets, but they were gross and didn’t work anyway. One day, my aunt discovered that if she gave me a Murray mint to suck on during the journey, I didn’t get sick. I don’t really know the mechanics of it, but it always worked.
Anyway, I didn’t notice until I got home that Maynards Bassets is owned by Mondelez now. But I checked out their palm oil policy, and they seem to be responsibly sourcing. I’m not really a fan of Mondelez, so I probably won’t buy these again. They are still the full sugar version, just as I remember them. The kids didn’t like it, the fussy hounds.
So I went to Morrison’s after that, and of course, I already had the bag of doughnuts from Sainsbury’s, but did that stop me checking out the doughnut section in Morrison’s? Did it heck! And they had custard ones this time. And I’m sorry to say I did buy a pack. Diabetes, here I come.
They were nicer than the Sainsbury’s ones. Sooooo soft and yummy. And so much custard.
I had to go Lidl to pick up some sweetcorn today, and they had tons of vegan stuff in the frozen aisle: ice creams, gateaux, burgers, pizzas. Loads! If they had mint ice cream, I would have bought some. I only ended up getting this chocolate, as well as the sweetcorn. I think it was 69p:
There was a Turkish Delight one, but I didn’t check it. The bubbly chocolate was all milk chocolate, such a shame. They had the mint crisps though, that were vegan, but they were like twice the price of the mint cremes.
I think it’s a good idea to start monitoring my weight again, because the amount of vegan junk food available is getting really really high.
Okay, bye!
