The Chipmunk and I got a plain wooden box from The Works. The Chipmunk couldn't think of how to decorate it, so of course Crafty Auntie (who is apparently just a bigger Mummy?) stepped in. He wanted to just paint the whole thing blue, with his very own blue glitter paint, but I told him, that's boring, if we're gonna do it, let's do it properly! (We did paint the inside of the lid blue, though.)
So this is what we came up with.
The quality of these boxes is a bit hit-and-miss. I would recommend buying them from a shop (well, maybe not at the moment) rather than online, as some of them need way more sanding than others.
We used acrylic paint, LIT paint, twine, tissue paper, PVA, UHU Power, sand, glitter, star confetti and that card that's used on the back of refill pads [edit: it's called greyboard or mountboard]. I sprayed several layers of Plastikote Satin on it to protect it. It was great fun, and we're really happy with how it turned out!
