I've been neglecting this blog a lot lately. This year is the 20th anniversary of the start of Jasmine's story.
Poor girl is still waiting for her happy ending. I didn't even realise tripod.com is gone, so her story has just been dead links all this time.
Anyway, as I mentioned on her story splash page, there's a lot of things that haven't aged well. I've reread it and her mental health issues are not addressed in the way they should be. She obviously has Complex PTSD, which I don't believe was a known thing back in 2007, and her anxious attachment is obvious.
The thing is, because I also have these same issues, her spiralling after her breakups was actually normal to me. Now that I know more about these things, I can see that I need to address how unhealthy and NOT normal this behaviour is.
Chapter 4 and 5 are the ones I really need to fix. Jasmine should have had a crisis team monitoring her and needed urgent psychotherapy, especially with her refusing to take her meds, since she slips into this same pattern every time a relationship ends.
My original plan was to do a full rewrite without the dynamic storybook. But that's going to require so much effort and re-formatting and I don't know if I have the energy for that.
I do want to give the poor woman the ending she deserves, and I kind of still remember what it is (I really wish I'd take notes for these things). So I'm just going to have to bodge together a fix for the existing format.
One thing I noticed is just how many em dashes I used to use in my fiction back then. So far I counted 72 on one of my Dreamsong chapters, not including the title.
So anyway, my Sim stories are back up, but I do need to work on the fixes for Jasmine's story.
(Apparently I have already said all this 5 years ago and forgotten. Only this time I have the wisdom of being the pathetic codependent fiancée twice now, yay me.)
I kinda toyed with the idea of writing Ash's story after he wakes up from the accident, but I realised it's too heavy for me and I don't think I need another unfinished project.
With my creativity in a slump these days, I can't make any promises, but to be honest I'm the only one who cares anyway. Okay, bye!
