The boys were given some empty hankie gift boxes, and as soon as I saw them, I thought: shadowboxes! It took a while, but I eventually finished one of them.

I originally painted the frame a more coppery shade, but I hadn't sanded down the box first (it was glossy card), so the paint started to peel, so I ended up sanding the whole thing down and repainting it).

I used a picture found off the Interwebz for the background. I printed in onto photo paper and protected it with sticky-backed plastic. I originally planned to make the tree out of paper maché, like I did with my Dagobah setting, but it just looked weird.

I looked online for some ideas, and decided it would be better to use real branches, so I helped myself to some of my mum's syringa. I painted my artificial moss with a brighter green for the foliage.

I made a bridge and little mushrooms out of airdry clay. The bridge was tricky, but I think it came out okay. I forgot to take a picture. The boards were coppery.

I also made a tiny faerie door, but then when it came to assembling the shadoxbox, I didn't know what to do. I should have made the bridge go the other way, and have the door aligned with the one in the background photo, but I'd already sanded down the back, so I just hid the door among foliage.

I wanted to make the river out of resin, but I don't have any, so I just used some old bird grit (the wrong kind for birds), and glued that to make a kind of gravel path or something. I don't really know what it is. I covered it with blue LIT, so it glows in the dark.

And I dotted the background, the tree foliage and the undersides of the mushrooms with LIT.

The next one up will be a space-themed one, but I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?
